Cooke: "Let Us Vote Out Of Hope, Not Fear"
OTTAWA – Saying that voters are increasingly expressing a desire to leave the conflict-ridden politics of the past behind, Jean-Luc Cooke, Green Party of Canada candidate for Nepean-Carleton, believes residents in the riding will demonstrate this intent on May 2, 2011.
“We’ve reached that point in the history of our communities and our country that supporting the status quo just postpones dealing with major issues like supporting small business, tackling the cancer epidemic, and stabilizing pensions. The other parties have proven their ineptitude in these vital areas and we are asking our fellow citizens to move beyond their traditional choices,” states Cooke.
The Toronto Star yesterday reported that senior Conservative strategists now concede a majority government is well out of reach. Cooke believes that the stage is now set for people to act in their short and long term interests. “Let us vote out of hope, not fear. By voting Green Party on Monday people can be certain that they will not have a case of voters’ remorse as is so often the case.”
The Bells Corners resident believes there is an “inescapable momentum for our party in the riding. We finished ahead of the NDP here in 2008 and we think that people are tiring of the perpetual mud-slinging spectacle between the Liberals and Conservatives. Our volunteer numbers, donations, sign locations are way up and that is a reflection of our communities coming to see us as their democratic voice.”
“Right now we have parliament in the riding. People want the riding in parliament. By instilling hope, fresh ideas, and consensus building into our democracy, more and more citizens believe that by voting for myself and the Greens on Monday a new beginning can be achieved,” declares Cooke.
“The great scientist Einstein famously said that ‘the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.’ Monday is an opportunity to truly vote for a sustainable, socially just, and financially responsible Canada,” says Cooke.
The Green Party of Canada earned close to a million votes in the 2008 election and defeated the NDP in Nepean-Carleton.
